Toby Birch - Community Centres 10 mins PDF 314 KB Minutes: TB gave out a presentation about the Community centres around Northampton. Keen to start new projects eg Briar Hill.
ACTION: NM to send out presentation and contact details.
Q: What activities do you run?
A: Run groups for all ages. New community centre has an industrial kitchen. Have lunch clubs for adults. Can make hot food at St Crispins and take to the centres. Run activities such as Bingo, health, recreational activities. Run craft days in Thornton Park.
Q: What are the costs? A: Normally charge £10 per hour. But will look at new groups and adapt ourselves.
Q: What is vision for Briar Hill? A: See it as one of the main hubs. There is a new heating system and re-decorated twice. Has a large hall, kitchen, have new cooker installed. Starting a youth group there. Need to bring the community together. Hope to have a resident’s community forum. See it as one of our prime sites and would like to see funding for it.
Q: Do you have a directory for which groups use it. A: Developing it so that we can take bookings. Please contact us direct and we can let you know. Police have been supportive of Briar Hill.
Have a database of groups using the centres if Police want to contact for Community Engagement purposes. The groups may need support.
Victims of crime in the areas can access Police through the centres.
Q: Are the meeting rooms in Lodge Farm still being used? A: Yes they can still be used.

Northamptonshire ACRE - (Action with Communities in Rural England) - Elaine O'Leary 15 mins Minutes: NA is a charity that works across county and is based in Hunsbury Hill centre. Try to support for people in rural areas. Eg creating broadband, supporting village halls. Involved in speed watch, setting up community shops and pubs.
Have a four year project – Wellbeing Service. Information bus which access communities. Aimed at over 50s. Older people are isolated in their villages and therefore have Good Neighbours Schemes. Work together to help local people with local needs. Run by local people. Run by local volunteers and look at “low level” needs to give support eg befriending. Does not take the place of carers and trades people.
Help groups get started – volunteers will be coordinators have a list of people can support. Can signpost to statutory organisations.
Have a launch on 21st November in Moulton Community Centre. Will be inviting councils to attend.
Q: Are you helping just villages or other places? A: Only villages. Good Neighbour Schemes does not have to be just in villages.
Q: Good Neighbour Scheme sounds formal. You may go to people who don’t want that. People have individual needs. Would you support one off events?
A: Yes, There does not have to be set rules and regulations.
Q: Do you have staff/resources?
A: Yes have a toolkit.
Q: Northampton is a unique area. Have 10 parish councils. Would be good idea to sit on the forum and engage. Have funding pots eg Small Grants Fund. Have Residents Association – should build on this. Can come to the community centre forums. Can link into these.
ACTION: NM to send all future meetings.
